"Alison" is a song written by and recorded by Elvis Costello in 1977 for his debut album 'My Aim Is True' on Stiff Records. The whole album (produced by Nick Lowe) is a killer, but this track always stood out for me. Interestingly, as the song was recorded before Elvis Costello and the Attractions formed, his backing band on the track was Clover, an American country rock group from Mill Valley, California. Although the song never charted at the time of it's release, 'Alison' eventually found it's way into the pantheon of great, classic songs. Rolling Stone ranked it No. 318 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
Here's my take on this classic track.
