I grew up in New Jersey, so being a Bruce Springsteen fan kinda comes with the territory.
Bruce is definitely up there with the greats like Bob Dylan, The Beatles and Beach Boys in my book and I'll defend that statement to one and all who only know him for the swagger and bombast of 'Born In The U.S.A' and may disagree. Anyway, I wasn't a big fan of this song when it came out. I was in High School and this was just all over MTV at the time. A kind of stupid video of a faux 'live performance' of Bruce and the E Street band playing the song, some girl hops up on stage, dances with Bruce, his jeans are definitely way too tight....it all just feels really awkward, staged and strange.
Plus, the recording is full of pretty cheesy sounding synths and stuff... nah.

So, it took me over 30 years to realise what an awesome song this actually is.
It's now become one of my favourite Bruce tunes (and there are quite a few).
Here's my take on this classic, sans the synths and BIG snare drum hits... enjoy.
