"Drive" is a 1984 song by The Cars, the third single from the band's 'Heartbeat City' album released in March 1984. The song was easily their biggest international hit.
Although written by Cars frontman Ric Ocasek, the track was originally sung by bassist Benjamin Orr instead, which always seemed really weird to me considering what an iconic singer Ric is.
Anyway,…I always loved the song, although it never really fit into my power pop perspective of the Cars at all. Way too many synths for my taste back in 1984!

34 years later I’m sitting in my attic wondering what song to cover next for my ‘Sounds Like Dirk’ radio show and this track comes on the radio downstairs in the kitchen.
Ten minutes later I’m playing the chords on my Martin acoustic and off I go….
So, I hope you like what I came up with on a rainy weekend in early March of 2018.
