Recording this song for my monthly 'Sounds Like Dirk' radio show in April 2020 in the midst of a worldwide lockdown because of the COVID 19 pandemic, this song seemed eerily relevant. (Plus, it's just cool) Everyone's talking about a 'new normal' now whilst only a few really understand what that could even mean. One definitely gets the sense that something has fundamentally shifted though and that we can't just go straight back to how things were before. It is really 'The End Of The World As We Know It', somehow.
We'll see where that leads us in the next months or so...

The original of this song is by R.E.M, of course. Written and credited to all band members, although I'm assuming Michael Stipe came up with the lyrics.
It first appeared on their 1987 album Document and was released as a single in November 1987, reaching No. 69 in the US Billboard Hot 100. I remember loving the video to this. A kid with a skateboard in an old, decrepit house or something... very brooding and dark but also kinda fun.
