about

"The Christmas Song” is a sublime, classic Christmas song written in 1945 by Bob Wells and Mel Tormé. According to Tormé, the song was written during a blistering hot summer in an effort to "stay cool by thinking cool”.
The Nat King Cole Trio first recorded the song early in 1946. Nat recorded it again in 1953 with a full orchestra arranged and conducted by the legendary Nelson Riddle (Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Judy Garland, Dean Martin etc. etc.) and yet again in 1961. This time in a stereophonic version with orchestra conducted by Ralph Carmichael. This version is my personal favorite.

This song is on so many of my favorite christmas albums. Yes, laugh at me… but it’s also on “A Partridge Family Christmas Card” album from 1971 which I loved as a kid (and still do).

So, as the first chilly winds of winter sweep round the corners of my house, I snuggled up in my studio with a hot tea and started playing around with this song. Here’s what I came up with.
Enjoy and have a wonderful and peaceful christmas with all you love.
