‘The Man You Used To Be' was a single by Nick Heyward (ex-Haircut One Hundred), released on Creation Records in 1997.
'Pelican West’, the band's debut album from 1982 was one of my favourite albums of that year. 'Favorite Shirts', 'Love Plus One' etc etc - some truely great songs on that record!
I continued to follow Nicks solo career until,...well, I lost track at some point.
I don't even remember 'The Man You Used To Be' registering with me at the time of it's release, oh my...

A few days ago I kind of binge-listened to Nicks catalog including his newest album-the very fine 'Woodland Echoes' -and this song just resonated with me. It's kind of Brit-Poppy, true to the spirit of what was happening around that time, but a great tune, too.
So, I had a go.

As usual, I sang and played everything here,...except:
I sent my good friend -and Bass player extraordinaire -Ben Schadow a rough mix at midnight on a Monday, he recorded his bass part and sent it back to me at 3 a.m. I mixed and mastered on the Tuesday.
Recorded in February 2018.
