The Lovin' Spoonful' aus Greenwich Village, New York City, veröffentlichten 1965 ihre erste Single "Do You Believe in Magic". Der Song war der Startschuss für eine ganze Reihe von Hits, die bis heute als echte Pop-Klassiker der 60er Jahre gelten: "Daydream", "Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind?" und "Summer in the City". Den Song kennt wohl wirklich jeder. Die Band bestand aus dem Songwriter John Sebastian und den Bandmitgliedern Zal Yanovsky, Joe Butler und Steve Boone.
"You Didn't Have to Be So Nice" wurde von John Sebastian und Steve Boone geschrieben und im November 1965 als Single veröffentlicht. Es war der zweite Hit der Gruppe und erreichte Platz 10 der amerikanischen Charts.
The Lovin' Spoonful" waren neben den Turtles ("Happy Together", "You Showed Me" - beides übrigens von unserer Band gecovert!) meine Lieblings-US-Band der 60er Jahre.
Tolle Songs, mächtige Backing Vocals - absoluter Fee-good-Pop eben!
